TechMade Research Fellowships provide an opportunity for PhD students to engage in an interdisciplinary engineering design research project and TechMade program activities throughout one academic year (fall and spring semesters) while receiving full tuition support and a stipend.
Eligibility
Current PhD students in residence and in any academic program at Georgia Tech are eligible to apply.
- Students must have at least 18 months remaining in their PhD program at the end of the Spring 2024 semester.
- Fellows must pursue PhD level research in engineering design and a complementary non-design domain (e.g., robotics, energy systems, biomedical engineering, manufacturing).
- Students will need advisors and/or committee members in both domains and a proposal describing the research to be completed of a maximum of 2000 words.
Benefits and Deliverables
Successful applicants will have the opportunity to engage in the broader TechMade community on campus.
TechMade Fellows will be expected to deliver:
- A seminar as part of a monthly seminar series
- A poster at end-of-year symposium
- A final report with a draft of a full-length conference and/or journal paper
- Lecture materials for utilizing the fellow’s project as an example in a related course
Application Packet
Applications should consist of the following:
- Curriculum Vitae (CV)
- 3-page proposal describing (1) the overall goals of the candidate’s proposed research, (2) its relationship to the state of the art, (3) a timeline, and (4) expected deliverables.
- Letters of support from 1-2 faculty members, including (1) the fellow’s primary advisor and (optionally) another faculty member who serves as a co-advisor and/or member of the fellow’s PhD committee.
Together, the application and the letters of support should provide evidence that the proposed research has the potential to make publishable intellectual contributions to both design and the proposed application area.
Application Process
Applications should be submitted by email to no later than April 30 (deadline extended to May 10). Finalists may be asked to attend a short interview with the selection committee. Decisions will be announced by May 31. Questions can be directed to Dr. Carolyn Seepersad.
